There is no debate that Michael Jordan is THE greatest basketball player of all time (we stand by that).
His accolades are many; having won six NBA championships (along with six NBA Finals MVPs), five-time NBA MVP, 14-time NBA All Star, 10-time scoring champion and the list goes on. Off-court, his accomplishments include saving the cartoon universe from space monsters in Space Jam and his burgeoning Air Jordan shoe empire which has made him the first billionaire player in NBA history.
As we enter the 20th year after his retirement from basketball in 1999 (not counting his brief return with the Washington Wizards), here are our top 5 Michael Jordan moments.
1. The Shot
Stripping Karl Malone of the ball and then dropping Bryon Russell (ok so maybe you can argue there was a bit of a push off) to hit the game winning shot to seal his legacy? Check.
2. This iconic Nike commercial
Our favourite Jordan commercial. Hands down. Mesmerizing.
3. The Shrug
After hitting six 3-pointers in the NBA finals no less:
4. The Flu game
Game 5 of the NBA finals in 1997 tied 2-2 with the Utah Jazz, Michael put up 38 points, 7 rebounds,5 assists, 3 steals and 1 block while having food poisoning/flu-like symptoms to lead the Bulls past the Jazz.
This iconic image of Pippen holding on to Michael is burned into memory.
5. Free throw line dunk
And winning the dunk contest.
