Our tribute to one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, David Bowie. This month would mark the fourth year of his passing on January 10, 2016, just two days after his 69th birthday.
Bowie’s career was marked by constant reinvention and visual presentation; he was the Picasso of Pop; innovative, visionary, a restless artist and the ultimate ever-changing postmodernist; his music and stagecraft has had a huge impact on pop culture.
He turned pop in a new direction in 1972 with the introduction of his alter ego Ziggy Stardust; a truly theatrical character that at once harked back to pre-war European theatre, while anticipating 1980s androgyny and today’s discussions around a transgender spectrum. Bowie was a great singer, songwriter, performer and actor, but beyond that and at the heart of the matter, David Bowie was simply extraordinarily cool.
From the Starman who brings a message of hope to those to who yearn to go on their own Space Oddity, David shows us that everyone can be Heroes, even if it is just for one day.
